Fleetwood-Park-Gnomon

Bulb Planting

This sculpture located in the Gardens at Fleetwood Park (80th Avenue) is the first artwork commissioned through Surrey's Private Development Public Art Program and was supported by a generous donation from the Anthem Properties Group.

The sculpture is designed in the shape of a Clematis leaf inspired by the clematis vines prevalent in the surrounding garden. The base of the sculpture is a map of Fleetwood.

Gnomon is inspired by a sundial and is named after the part of a sundial that casts a shadow. The movement of this artwork's shadow doesn't tell the time but rather points to the passage of time in the history of the Fleetwood community commemorated on each of twelve discs.
